Boston’s Restaurant & Sports Bar is closing Aug. 18, according to its Facebook page.
The restaurant, at 13070 City Station Drive in the River City Marketplace near the Jacksonville International Airport, has been in operation for 15 years.
No reason for the closing was given in the Facebook post. Calls and emails requesting comment were not returned.
Boston’s called itself “the home of the gourmet pizza.” It offered a familiar sports bar menu.
The Facebook post read in part: “It has been an incredible journey, filled with unforgettable moments, laughter, celebrations, and the joy of sharing delicious meals with all of you. We’ve had the privilege of being part of your birthdays, anniversaries, and everyday moments, and we couldn’t have asked for more loyal and supportive Guests”.
The restaurant has held regular bingo, trivia and karaoke nights.
The Jacksonville Boston’s was a family-owned franchise. There are more than 400 Boston’s restaurants in U.S., Canada and Mexico.
The company’s website lists Jacksonville as its only Florida location.
It was founded by Gus Agioritis in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1964. The first was called Boston Pizza and Spaghetti House. Jim Treliving and George Melville bought the company in 1983.
