Island Wing Co. Grill & Bar is preparing to build its third Northeast Florida restaurant as the city reviews a permit application for a location at Tamaya Market in Jacksonville.
No contractor is listed for the estimated $3.2 million project to build an almost 7,000-square-foot building on 1.54 acres at 12689 Beach Blvd., at northeast Beach and Kernan boulevards.
Plans indicate more than 230 seats for inside and patio bar and dining patrons.
The site is within the shopping center anchored by Sprouts Farmers Market. The restaurant is on Outparcel 2 at the southeast corner of the site at Tamaya and Beach boulevards.
Colliers Vice Presidents Nancy Sumner and Katy Figg represent the Tamaya Market landlord in leasing the shopping center property.
The Island Wing location is shown on a Colliers site brochure.
The Benedict Bullock Group of Deerfield Beach is the architect. CHW Professional Consultants of Alachua is the civil engineer.
Island Wing Co. opened its first Jacksonville area location at 4409 Southside Blvd. in the Tinseltown area of Deerwood North and the second at 360 Bartram Market Drive in Saint Johns.
The 7,700-square-foot Tinseltown location opened in early 2020 in a converted TGI Friday’s restaurant.
The 10,528-square-foot Bartram site opened in June 2022.
Island Wing says it bakes or grills – and doesn’t fry – its wings, fries, burgers and other ingredients on the rest of its menu that includes tacos, quesadillas, salads, flatbreads, sandwiches, macaroni and cheese and entrees. It also features appetizers and desserts.
It also offers more than 50 craft beers on tap.
Property owner OFFI Island Wing Tamaya LLC of West Palm Beach bought the site in November 2021 for $1.75 million.
The acquiring LLC is associated with restaurant groups that own Island Wing and other concepts.
Destin-based Island Wing Co. opened its first restaurant in 2012 in Alabama by “a pair of free-thinking restaurant entrepreneurs who happen to love the island life.”
The IslandWingCo.com says the husband and wife team had spent the previous 15 years building a 300-unit restaurant chain based in Destin.
They franchise the locations, which comprise 10 in Florida (seven), Alabama (two) and one in Virginia.
“It’s our passion to provide our customers with unparalleled hospitality in a fun and vibrant island environment, all while serving great tasting food with a healthier twist,” the site says.
