The city issued a permit April 17 for Publix Super Markets Inc., which regularly renovates or rebuilds its stores, to remodel its East Arlington grocery in Cobblestone Crossing at northeast Monument and McCormick roads.
Publix has anchored the center since both were built in 1986. It demolished that store and built a new one in 2014.
Elkins Construction LLC of Jacksonville is the contractor for the $900,000 renovation. Orlando-based Jacobs Architects is the architect.
Publix will remodel the 54,244-square-foot interior of the supermarket at 2771 Monument Road, No. 19.
The work will include adding self-checkout stations while keeping seven staffed checkouts as well as the customer service center.
Other services and merchandise appear to be in the same format.
The renovation includes new finishes, fixtures and repairs as well as enclosing a loading dock.
A spokesperson for the Lakeland-based chain said in March the project was targeted to begin in the second quarter, which is April-June, but did not know when it will be completed.
The store remains open during the remodel.
The property is near the Hidden Hills Golf Club and across Monument Road from Ed Austin Regional Park.
In 2014, Publix demolished the original store and built a larger version that was about 9,000 square feet bigger and included a pharmacy, bakery, deli, floral and fresh seafood departments.
About 5 miles south of that store, Publix demolished and is rebuilding its store in Harbour Place Shopping Center at 13170 Atlantic Blvd. at Atlantic and Hodges boulevards.
