Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed 4th Judicial Circuit Public Defender Charles Cofer to serve on the state Medical Examiners Commission.
The Legislature created the nine-member commission in 1970 to establish minimum and uniform standards in statewide medical examiner services and to conduct administrative investigations regarding alleged misconduct of medical examiners.
Cofer is a former Duval County judge.
He received a bachelor’s in political science and zoology from Duke University and a law degree from the University of Virginia.
