The city issued a permit June 5 for U.S. General Construction Inc. of Alpharetta, Georgia, to build a 2,490-square-foot restaurant for Hwy55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries at 1027 Danmac Lane in West Jacksonville at a construction cost of $858,000.
It will be the North Carolina chain’s first Jacksonville restaurant.
The 1.12-acre site is along Commonwealth Avenue east of Interstate 295 in west Duval County.
Area developer and franchisee Jeremy Bond said previously his group has the rights to open locations in Georgia and North Florida.
Hwy55 is a table-service brand that was started by Kenney Moore as Andy’s Cheesesteaks & Cheeseburgers.
The restaurant menu includes burgers; cheesesteaks; chicken cheesesteaks and sandwiches; shrimp burgers and po’boys; salads; hot dogs; BLTs; grilled cheese; platters; kids’ meals; sides; and frozen custard, sundaes, shakes and floats.
