As Publix Super Markets Inc. prepares to demolish its store in Harbour Place Shopping Center at Atlantic and Hodges boulevards, the city issued a permit for the company to build its replacement.
The store has posted signs that it will close at 7 p.m. July 15 “to build a new store on-site.”
Publix invites customers to visit nearby stores at Intracoastal Plaza and Kernan Square, both along Beach Boulevard.
The city issued a permit July 7 for HGR Construction Inc. of Altamonte Springs to build a 56,433-square-foot grocery store at 13170 Atlantic Blvd. at a project cost of $7.11 million.
On June 21, the city approved a permit for Fisher and Associates LLC of Clearwater to demolish 54,976 square feet of grocery and retail space at a cost of $100,000.
The site is at Hodges and Atlantic boulevards near Queen’s Harbour Yacht & Country Club.
The neighboring Hallmark store will move to a new storefront several spaces east within the center. The current location is part of the Publix project.
The city issued a permit March 16 for Comet Construction of Boca Raton to build-out 3,705 square feet of space in Units 50-52 at a cost of $551,200 for the Hallmark relocation.
Plans show the new Publix will have a seating area by the bakery and deli area planned to the left front corner of the store.
The signs did not state when the replacement Publix would open.
Campo Engineering Inc. of Tampa prepared the site construction plans for Publix Super Markets Inc.
Campo filed civil engineering plans with the city Oct. 28 to remove the existing Publix and a metal building and build a new supermarket.
The shopping center was built in 1990 at Atlantic and Hodges boulevards.
Lakeland-based Publix bought the shopping center in 2016 through PSM Harbour Place LLC.
Property records show Publix bought a site that comprises 109,472 square feet and a separate 3,861-square-foot bank on about 18 acres.
The supermarket chain has been developing, redeveloping and renovating stores across Northeast Florida.
