Flying Fish Taphouse, ”an upscale casual restaurant and micro-brewery,” announced it will open Feb. 27 near Jacksonville International Airport.
The restaurant is in the former Millhouse Restaurant space at 1341 Airport Road. It is on the north side of Airport Road at Ranch Road.
“Patrons can expect a fun-filled experience in a classy, but casual dining atmosphere,” Flying Fish Taphouse owner Jim Franks said in a news release.
The city issued a permit July 29 for the former Millhouse to be remodeled into the Flying Fish Taphouse.
Tannam Inc. of Atlantic Beach was the contractor to convert the 5,990-square-foot restaurant, which was built in 2005. The renovation added 2,500 square foot of space and a beer garden.
Flying Fish Taphouse says the restaurant features rustic décor “that brings a bit of the local First Coast beach theme to Jacksonville’s northside.”
The restaurant will feature two 20-tap brewery cooling systems with a rotating selection of house-brewed, other local and national beers.
Signature dishes include Shrimp, Grits & Tails featuring sauteed rock shrimp, mushrooms, scallions, bacon jam and fried crawfish tails over cheese grits, and an Elk Burger topped with jalapeno-bacon jam.
Starters include wings, fried gator tail and crawfish esquites Mexican street corn dip.
Flying Fish Taphouse also says it will offer daily specials that highlight fresh Northeast Florida seafood.
Scott Welch is the executive chef. Rich East is the general manager.
Flying Fish Taphouse hours are 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday-Saturday. Happy hour is 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday. Live music will be available on select nights.
