Publix to raze, rebuild Island Walk store in Fernandina Beach

The Lakeland-based company plans a larger location at 1421 Sadler Road in Nassau County.

Publix Super Markets Inc. intends to demolish and rebuild its Fernandina Beach grocery store in the Island Walk Shopping Center, which was built in 1987.

The St. Johns River Water Management District is reviewing an application for Publix to replace the store at 1421 Sadler Road in Nassau County with a 58,834-square-foot version.

The Island Walk Shopping Center sits on 19.89 acres at Sadler Road and South 14th Street in Fernandina Beach.

Plans show the existing shopping center is almost 213,656 square feet. Bealls and Bealls Outlet/Home Centric are two of the other anchors.

The existing Publix store to be demolished is 57,086 square feet.

Bohler Engineering FL LLC in Boca Raton is the civil engineer.

Its stormwater management report says the project comprises updates to the site that will include a teardown and rebuild of the existng grocery store and minor updates to the existing parking area.

Island Walk Station LLC, in care of Phillips Edison & Co. in Cincinnati, Ohio, is the owner. 

Phillips Edison Grocery Center Operating Partnership II L.P. is the member of Island Walk Station LLC.

Lakeland-based Publix has been tearing down and rebuilding stores as well as renovating others and building new locations.
