Ulta Beauty is renovating space in the former Newk’s Eatery in Mandarin for its ninth area store.
The city issued a permit April 19 for Target Contractors Inc. to remodel the restaurant space at a cost of $328,815.
The site is in Claire Lane Center at 11112 San Jose Blvd., No. 32-34, next to Mandola’s Italian Kitchen.
Ulta Beauty also has shops within two Target stores with plans for a third at 10490 San Jose Blvd., 1.3 miles north of Claire Lane Center.
Landlord Sleiman Enterprises shows on its Claire Lane Center brochure that Ulta will lease 8,844 square feet.
The Ulta store will take the former Newk’s Eatery and other vacant space.
Ulta Beauty has stores in The Markets at Town Center, Parkway Shops, Ortega Park, OakLeaf Town Center, South Beach Regional in Jacksonville Beach, Yulee, St. Augustine and The Pavilion at Durbin Park.
It operates a distribution center in Park 295 Industrial Park at Interstate 295 and Duval Road in Northwest Jacksonville.
Ulta Beauty Inc., based in Bolingbrook, Illinois, near Chicago, had 1,355 stores totaling 14.2 million square feet of space as of Jan. 28, the end of its fiscal year.
It is publicly traded.
For fiscal 2022, net sales increased 18.3% to $10.2 billion compared with $8.6 billion in fiscal 2021, “primarily due to the favorable impact from the continued resilience of the beauty category, retail price increases, the impact of new brands and product innovation, increased social occasions, and fewer COVID-19 limitations compared to fiscal 2021,” Ulta said.
In a March investor presentation, Ulta said it has more than 1,350 stores “in convenient, high-traffic locations” and 355 Ulta Beauty at Target locations.
Ulta Beauty plans to open 25 to 30 stores in 2023 and remodel or relocate 20 to 30 stores
