The Downtown Development Review Board unanimously, even enthusiastically, approved conceptual project plans April 13 for Dedalus Wine Bar in Brooklyn.
The proposed development involves renovating the former Liddy’s Machine Shop at 825 Dora St.
Court records show Dedalus acquired Liddy’s in August 2022 for $440,000.
Once work begins, it is expected to be completed in six months.
Board members described the plan as “cool,” great” and an “incredible project.”
“I’m not a technical member on this board. I’m just a Downtown employee,” said board member Gary Monahan. “But I ask myself, ‘Would I spend money here?’ I would.”
“You had at me at wine bar,” said DDRB Chair Matt Brockelman.
According to the application submitted by Dedalus, the project will involve renovating the 10,000-square-foot building, with 7,000 square feet to be occupied by the wine shop and bar and the remaining 3,000 square feet to be divided for two additional “compatible tenants.”
The exterior areas will be redeveloped for outdoor dining, green space and surface parking.
“As designed, the proposed rehabilitation of the existing building is consistent with the District Standards and Neighborhood Brand in that it is a mid-size, neighborhood-oriented, modern renovation of a historic structure,” the application reads.
Dedalus, which has locations in Vermont and Colorado, was founded in 2007. It is owned by Jason Zuliani.
Lay Duckworth Construction is the contractor. Thomas Duke Architecture is the architect and Lowe Structures is the engineer.
Founded in 1929, Liddy’s had been in business for 91 years before permanently closing in 2022.
