The city approved a permit March 9 for Horizon Retail Construction to build-out a Village Medical primary care practice at Walgreens at 14405 Beach Blvd.

The $625,000 project will add a 3,267-square-foot clinic within the 13,737-square-foot pharmacy. There are eight clinics planned by the pharmacy chain in Duval County. The planned and improved renovation costs so far top $5.1 million in Duval.

Walgreens and Village MD opened the first Village Medical at Walgreens primary care practice in the Jacksonville area Feb. 15 at 105 Julington Plaza Drive in St. Johns County.

Four are open with six more in development and projected to open over the next 12 months. LUV CEO Darren Skarecky said the company wants to add at least 20 more sites in the area.
