IQ Fiber, a Jacksonville-owned residential fiber-optic service provider, began installing underground conduit and fiber-optic cable in San Marco on March 15.
On March 1, the company announced plans to install and service homes in Atlantic Beach.
Construction costs for the San Marco project are set at $8.4 million.
IQ Fiber is based at 25 N. Market St. Downtown in the Groover-Stewart Building.
“San Marco will now have a smarter choice for high-speed broadband,” said CEO Ted Schremp in a statement.
The company will install in the right-of-way underground conduit and fiber-optic cables from its internet source directly to customers’ homes. When neighborhoods have the cable installed, individual customers will have underground cable extended to a box on the side of the building, which then will be connected to the interior of the building.
It is expected that the San Marco installation will be completed later this year.
