Hotel occupancy in Duval County was 65.1% in December.
While not the record, that occupancy percentage represents the most rooms sold in December in Jacksonville, according to a Jan. 20 report from Visit Jacksonville.
Data from STR, a hotel business analytics firm, shows December 2017 had occupancy at 66.5% but the Jacksonville market had almost 500 fewer rooms to sell per day that year than in December 2021.
The average room rate was $97.05, higher than rates the past four years.
Revenue per room grew more than 40% throughout the area compared with December 2020, the ninth month of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Northside/airport submarket showed the greatest growth at 75%, followed by Downtown at 68.8%
Occupancy in 2021 was 71.2%. Demand was nearly 4.8 million rooms sold, more than in 2019 and 2020.
The average rate was $98.42, exceeding the average of the previous three years. Revenue per room was $70.12 in 2021.
Analyzing data by type of travel, group business improved by 59.1% compared with 2020. Transient business, which is tourism and individual business travel, increased by 25.2%.
Room revenue was $470 million, exceeding the room revenue of 2018, 2019 and 2020.
