4th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission seeking applicants

The deadline to apply for the vacancy created by the retirement of Circuit Judge Daniel Wilensky is Jan. 28.

The 4th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission is accepting applications for the vacancy created by the retirement of Circuit Judge Daniel Wilensky.

Applications must be submitted before 4 p.m. Jan. 28 in PDF format, including a digital photograph, via email to: [email protected].

Applicants are asked, but not required, to submit two PDF documents containing all application materials, attachments, photographs, etc.

Personal information not subject to public disclosure should be redacted on a separate copy of the application as permitted by Section 119.071 of the Florida Statutes.

The documents should be styled:

“Lastname.Firstname.RedactedApplication.pdf” and “Lastname.Firstname.UnredactedApplication.pdf”. 

Additionally, a copy of both the unredacted and redacted applications should be delivered to:

Applications may be downloaded from The Florida Bar’s website at www.floridabar.org or the Executive Office of the Governor at www.flgov.com. 

Interviews will be scheduled Feb. 10 in Chief Judge Mark Mahon’s chambers at the Duval County Courthouse.

Incomplete applications and applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered. Applicants must meet the qualifications for judges outlined in Article V, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution. 

To assist the commission, all questions on the application must be fully and completely answered. Applications must include current contact information (particularly direct phone numbers), including e-mail addresses for judges, co-counsel, opposing counsel and references to facilitate the background investigation that will be conducted by members of the commission. 

All proceedings of the commission are open to the public except for deliberations. Accordingly, applicants should not expect their application be kept confidential. 

If an applicant is nominated, all materials attached to the original application will be submitted to DeSantis’s office.

Applicants shall not initiate contact with the commissioners before the nominees are submitted to DeSantis unless questions pertain only to the application process.
