Appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to the Duval County Court in June 2020 and then to the 4th Circuit bench in September 2021, Kite serves on the Jacksonville Bar Association Judicial Relations Committee.
What inspired you to become a lawyer?
Unlike many in the legal profession, I did not always know that I wanted to be an attorney. I went to law school because I wanted to learn more about the law and I fell in love with trial practice. This passion continued throughout my career at the State Attorney’s Office.
How do you relate your undergraduate degree to your practice on the bench?
My undergraduate degree is in education with a specialization in exceptional student education. That degree serves me well in my legal career. It helped me learn how to break complex concepts into easy-to-understand principles. Additionally, my training as an educator was helpful in developing my trial skills. Later, I used my degree as an adjunct professor at Florida Coastal School of Law to teach trial practice.
What is your favorite book?
I’m a big “Game of Thrones fan. Since the television series has ended, I have decided to start reading the book series. I’m just starting my journey with “A Song of Fire and Ice.”
Do you have any special talents?
My special talent would be my ballet and jazz training.
Have you traveled anywhere exotic?
I love to travel. I traveled all over western Europe when I was in law school. I frequently travel to the Caribbean, Mexico and Costa Rica.
What’s your favorite food?
I’m a self-proclaimed foodie, so this question is difficult for me to answer. I think mainly because of the variety of the selection, I would choose sushi as my favorite food.
What’s your favorite holiday?
I love Thanksgiving. I love to cook, eat and spend time with family. I love the idea of spending an entire holiday focused on gratitude.
