FSCJ’s Carol Jenkins Neil recognized for leadership, community outreach

She received the 2022 Trailblazer and chapter president awards from the National Black Nurses Association.

Florida State College at Jacksonville Professor of Nursing Carol Jenkins Neil received two awards from the National Black Nurses Association.

Neil, a registered nurse with a doctorate in nursing, received the 2022 Trailblazer Award for her leadership and innovation in nursing education, practice, research, advocacy and community engagements.

She also received the association’s Daisy Health Equity Chapter President Leadership Award in recognition of advancing its mission and vision by addressing health equity while meeting the needs of the community.

“Dr. Neil’s commitment to her students and to enhancing the level and access of health care in this community is an inspiration,” FSCJ President John Avendano said in an Aug. 4 news release.

“This well-deserved recognition speaks to the tremendous level of skill, knowledge and passion she brings to the nursing profession and developing the nurses of tomorrow.”

Neil is a professor in the RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at FSCJ, president of the First Coast Black Nurses Association, a lifetime member of the National Black Nurses Association and chairs its Population Health Committee.

She previously received the 2020 Nurse of the Year for Community Service. Her outreach includes collaboration with Jacksonville medical associations, Urban League, Hispanic Nurses Association, local hospital systems and other health care partners.
