Two Rooms To Go stores in the Regency and Avenues areas are closed, with signs posted that the businesses have moved to the new location at The Markets at Town Center.
The new store is midway between the Regency and Avenues locations and is larger the two closed stores combined.
Seffner-based Rooms To Go says it will open the new store at 10 a.m. Oct. 2 at 4875 Town Center Parkway.
The stores at 9278 Arlington Expressway in the Regency Court shopping center in Arlington and at 11030 Philips Highway near The Avenues mall were largely vacant as of the morning of Sept. 30.
A few furnishings and accessories appear to be in preparation for moving or other disposal.
Rooms To Go CEO Jeffrey Seaman said previously that one of the two stores will be converted into an outlet and the other will close.
Seaman was not immediately available for comment Sept. 30.
Seaman said all jobs will be retained and moved to The Markets at Town Center store. In addition to the relocated jobs, the new store will add about 30 workers, totaling 50-60 employees.
The Markets at Town Center location is about midway between the Regency and Avenues stores. The Regency store is about 6 miles north and The Avenues area store is almost 8 miles south.
The Markets at Town Center space is more than the combined space of the two existing closest Rooms To Go stores, which both are owned by Rooms To Go affiliates.
The 84,880-square-foot Markets at Town Center store comprises a 73,315-square-foot main floor and 11,565 square feet of mezzanine space.
Property records show the roughly 30,000-square-foot Regency area store was built in 1998 and the 41,000-square-foot Avenues area store was developed in 1995.
Rooms To Go also operates at 142 Blanding Blvd. in Orange Park. Another entity owns the 30,000-square-foot Orange Park store, built in 1994.
Flyers and ads invite potential customers to its “newest state-of-the-art showroom” at The Markets at Town Center.
It says the “super showroom” includes Rooms To Go living rooms, bedrooms and dining furniture along with RTG Kids & Patio for children’s and outdoor furnishings.
Rooms To Go occupies a renovated former Toys R Us and Babies R Us store next to Sprouts Farmers Market. Through an entity, Seaman bought it Oct. 30 and renovated it.
The work included complete interior tenant improvements.
At the time, Seaman said Rooms To Go intended to renovate the store as its new concept.
In addition to its current furniture line, Rooms To Go added an expanded children’s section and a 9,000-square-foot area for outdoor patio furniture.
According to the company, at 74,000 square feet with a 55,000-square-foot showroom, the location will be the company’s largest new concept store.
The Markets at Town Center Toys R Us and Babies R Us store closed in 2018.
