The Farah & Farah law firm is extending its application deadline for the 2nd Annual Empowering Greatness Scholarship Program to Oct. 8, giving high school seniors an additional four weeks to apply.
A news release from the firm says that five students will receive scholarships that will pay for the first two years of college.
The plan prepays tuition, registration fees and local fees for 60 lower-division semester credit hours at any of Florida’s 28 colleges. It also can be applied toward tuition at a four-year Florida university or for a technical degree.
The program is offered in partnership with Goodwill Industries of North Florida Inc., which will vet the scholarship applications. They will be reviewed and scored by a scholarship committee comprising a diverse panel of community judges and Farah & Farah employees.

The scholarship program recognizes students in low-income, high-crime neighborhoods who are committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and gun violence through the pursuit of higher education.
Farah & Farah will award the scholarships through a dollar-for-dollar match with the Florida Prepaid College Foundation.
The Empowering Greatness Scholarship is part of Farah & Farah’s effort to continue to strengthen education by recognizing exceptional students for their community service and commitment to bettering their neighborhoods.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must attend a public or charter high school in the Jacksonville area, Gainesville, Fort Myers, Ocala, Tampa or Orlando.
Scholarship winners will be notified Nov. 5.
