Jacksonville restaurateur Al Mansur is moving ahead with his new Iguana on Park restaurant in South Avondale by applying for plan review to convert the building at an estimated $200,000.
Costs could change before the city issues the permit.
Eastern Shores Construction Inc. of Atlantic Beach is listed as the contractor of the project, at 3638 Park St. Julianne Overby LLC of Jacksonville Beach is the architect.
The scope of the work is renovating the existing building, which previously was used by South Kitchen & Spirits, to include exterior and interior finishes. Mansur bought the building in November.
The build-out space is 7,614 square feet, comprising 6,358 square feet of interior space and 1,256 square feet of covered patio space.
Plans show interior dining, private dining, patio dining and a bar along with the kitchen and prep space.
Mansur, through Avondale Dining LLC, filed the name “Iguana on Park” with the state.
“We will be moving forward with the Flying Iguana concept,” Mansur said by email Feb. 21. “The new sister restaurant will be called Iguana on Park.”
The restaurant describes its menu as a fusion of Latin American cuisine that also features creative cocktails, tequilas and craft beers.
Mansur said he hopes to be ready this summer.
“It will be a decent amount of work to the building on the exterior and the interior. I want to put our touches on it to make it a cool spot for dining in Avondale,” he said.
