Poke Burri, the Atlanta-based sushi, poke and ramen restaurant, opens Jan. 9 in Riverside.
Poke Burri occupies 1,480 square feet of space in Prado Walk at 2545 Riverside Ave., No. 1, with a seating capacity of 48. It takes the place where 7-Eleven operated.
Andrew Clarke is the local owner. The building permit application shows that FDX LLC, doing business as Poke Burri Jax, is the business owner. FDX LLC is led by Clarke.
Hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.
“We are not just a regular poke place but hope to be one of the best restaurants in the city,” company co-founder Seven Chan said Jan. 8.
Chan said the location employs about seven people.
An online menu at pokeburri.com features starters, poke bowl, burrito bowls, build-your-own rolls and bowls, and poke doughnuts – rice rings with salmon, tuna or crab with a choice of toppings such as avocado, beets, carrots, red cabbage and edamame.
Chan said Poke Burri plans two more area locations, but likely won’t open a second until after 2021.
“We try to find cities we like,” Chan said. “Jacksonville is a good city, a cool but peaceful place.”
Chan and Ken Yu founded Poke Burri in 2016 in Atlanta. He said Clarke has been a Jacksonville local for more than 20 years.
“We chose Jacksonville because we love the city, love the neighborhood,” Chan said.
“As a business we see a lot of room for growth in our industry,” Chan said. “We are not just a regular poke place but hope to be one of the best restaurants in the city.”
The location is across Riverside Avenue from Ascension St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital.
“It is convenient to the hospitals, medical offices, Five Points,” Chan said.
According to its pokeburri.com website, Poke Burri has eight locations, comprising four in Atlanta, one each in Jacksonville, Tampa, Houston and Raleigh, North Carolina.
Three more are planned in Denver, Philadelphia and Charleston, South Carolina.
The city issued a permit Sept. 23 for Atlas Built Construction LLC of Neptune Beach to build-out the space for Poke Burri at a cost of $100,000.
