Greg McGarity is the new president and CEO of Gator Bowl Sports, effective March 1.
He joins the organization following a 43-year career in college athletics, most recently as athletic director at the University of Georgia since 2010, according to a news release from Gator Bowl Sports.
McGarity will succeed the retiring Rick Catlett, who was president and CEO of Gator Bowl Sports for 29 years.
McGarity will oversee operations including the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl, JAXSPORTS Council and Gator Bowl Charities. He also will assist Gator Bowl Sports strategic partners including the city of Jacksonville, Jacksonville Jaguars, JAX Chamber and local corporate partners.
Gator Bowl Sports Chairman John Duce said in the release that when the board of trustees began looking for Catlett’s successor, they prioritized growth of the organization, locally and nationally.
“Greg brings with him longterm relationships and respect not only in college athletics, but also with Gator Bowl Sports stakeholders from years of working in partnership on the Georgia vs. Florida game. He is a tremendous asset to our organization and we look forward to building a future with him at the helm,” Duce said.
“I look forward to joining the Gator Bowl Sports team and furthering a legacy that is 76 years in the making,” McGarity said.
