UF Health and Jax Spine & Pain Centers announced a Feb. 17 groundbreaking for a $25 million multispecialty surgery center and medical office building.
The three-story, 54,000-square-foot facility is planned at 5191 First Coast Tech Parkway at northeast Butler and Kernan boulevards, according to a Feb. 12 news release.
The project is expected to be completed in spring 2022. It is near the University of North Florida.
UF Health Jacksonville physicians will have access to the facility to provide outpatient surgical procedures and meet with patients in the medical office buildings.
“This is a great opportunity for UF Health to work hand-in-hand with one of this region’s leaders in outpatient surgical care,” Dr. Leon Haley Jr., CEO of UF Health Jacksonville, said in the news release.
“There are so many positive aspects of this collaboration, from UF Health’s surgical experts branching out into the community to something as basic as the location, which is central to all parts of Northeast Florida. This facility gives us the ability to bring our expertise and compassionate care to more people.”
The project will be the largest free-standing surgery center in the region, the news release said. It will include the 19,000-square-foot Centurion Surgery Center.
It will offer neurosurgical, orthopedic, gastrointestinal, oral and maxillofacial, surgical and gynecological care, in addition to interventional pain management.
“We wanted a place that catered to interventional spine procedures and allowed us to have an environment that we could give great care in an outpatient care facility specialized and created specifically for pain management,” Jax Spine & Pain Centers founder Dr. Christopher Roberts said in the release.
Jax Spine & Pain Centers has six locations in North Florida and South Georgia. It focuses on spinal conditions, fractures, migraines facial pain, fibromyalgia and herniated discs, according to its website.
