The Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida is working to develop a strategic plan that will help shape the future of housing and community development in Clay County.
The council provides access to a survey seeking input from the community as the county prepares to apply for a Community Development Block Grant.
The grant process includes an assessment of housing needs, current market conditions and barriers to fair housing.
“Clay County has a great opportunity to shape the future of housing and community development. Research consistently demonstrates a strong link between housing and health,” said Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida CEO and President Susan Grich in a news release.
Grich said about 40% of health outcomes are attributed to factors like income, housing status and access to sufficient healthy food.
The grant program is administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The release said it provides annual grants to improve housing and suitable living environments and expand economic opportunities for low- to moderate-income residents.
“CDBG funding is awarded based on need in the community, which is why it is so important that we hear from all members of the community and submit a strategic plan to HUD that truly represents Clay County,” said Ed Lehman, Clay County planning and zoning director, in the release.
The Health Planning Council also will host a virtual communitywide workshop at 6 p.m. Feb. 18. Clay County residents may register for the event at https://rb.gy/s5skl8.
