Former UF Health Jacksonville CEO Russell Armistead again will lead the hospital, effective Aug. 9.
He steps in for Leon Haley, who died July 24.
Armistead served as CEO from 2013 until his retirement in 2017. Before becoming CEO he served as associate vice president for finance and planning for UF Health in Jacksonville and Gainesville for nearly a decade.
In his tenure, Armistead oversaw the opening of primary care practices, the UF Health North hospital and the improvement of quality and patient safety measures.
“Russ has an excellent track record leading UF Health Jacksonville to new heights,” said Dr. David R. Nelson, senior vice president for health affairs at the University of Florida and president of UF Health.
Before joining UF Health in 2004, Armistead was president of Armistead Consulting LLC, which provided management and consulting to academic health centers, hospitals and health systems.
Before that, he held leadership positions at Wake Forest University School of Medicine including serving as vice president for health services administration and associate dean for administrative services.
Armistead received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Virginia Tech and a Master of Business Administration from Wake Forest University.
The hospital announced Aug. 2 that Dr. Linda Edwards would take over Haley’s position as dean of UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville.
