The leaders of the Jacksonville and Puerto Rico port authorities will sign a “Memorandum of Understanding to affirm the vital maritime partnership between the two organizations,” JaxPort announced April 20.
Maritime trade between Jacksonville and Puerto Rico was established in the 1950s. JaxPort said Jacksonville now is the No. 1 U.S. port for trade with the island, handling nearly 90% of all sea trade between Puerto Rico and the U.S. mainland.
JaxPort CEO Eric Green and Puerto Rico Ports Authority Executive Director Joel A. Pizá-Batiz will take part in the ceremony at 9 a.m. April 26 at JaxPort’s board of directors meeting.
JaxPort said in a news release Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Kevin Thibault also will attend the meeting.
Others scheduled to attend include JAXUSA Partnership President Aundra Wallace and CEOs from Jacksonville’s three Puerto Rican ocean carriers, Crowley, TOTE Maritime and Trailer Bridge.
The “A Celebration of Partnership Signing ceremony” is at the JaxPort Cruise Terminal, 9810 August Drive.
