Marks Gray adds aviation law team
The Marks Gray law firm established a four-member aviation law team and added two business litigators. The firm now comprises 25 attorneys and 57 employees.
The aviation law practice is led by partner Edward Booth Jr., with associate attorney Courtney Johnson, paralegal Beth Lewis and legal assistant Tia Pace. The group previously was with Boyd & Jenerette’s Jacksonville office.
Booth has practiced law since 1982. A licensed pilot for 43 years, in 1996 he was the first attorney to be board certified in aviation law by The Florida Bar.
Booth has served on the Jacksonville Aviation Authority board of directors and is an adjunct professor at Jacksonville University, teaching an aviation law course in the Davis College of Business School of Aviation.
Kevin Moore and Andrew Bell joined the firm to practice commercial and insurance defense litigation.
Moore most recently practiced at Hardesty, Tyde, Green & Ashton. Bell most recently practiced in the Jacksonville office of Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer.
Chief U.S. District Judge Timothy Corrigan established a merit selection panel to consider applications for the U.S. magistrate judge vacancy in the Jacksonville Division.
U.S. Magistrate Judge James Klindt is retiring effective Oct. 31 after serving on the federal bench since 2007.
The panel comprises:

• Attorney Laura Renstrom
• Attorney Frank Talbot
• Mercedes McGowan, nonlawyer
• Kenneth Reddick, nonlawyer
The panel will review each application and may interview applicants as the panel determines.
No later than June 30, the panel must recommend to the district judges the five applicants whom the panel considers best qualified. The district court will select and appoint the new magistrate judge.

The city of Jacksonville Office of General Counsel is accepting applications for an assistant general counsel.
The primary purpose of the position is to mentor less experienced attorneys and to provide legal services related to complex cases.
Requirements include:
• Graduation from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Florida.
• Ten years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of law.
• Two years of experience at the managerial or supervisory level.
