Walmart announced Sept. 17 it would build seven Walmart Health clinics in Jacksonville, with the first opening in early 2021.
The global retailer announced July 22 it would enter the Florida market with clinics in Jacksonville. The Sept. 17 blog post said it could add locations in Orlando and Tampa, too.
Plans for three Jacksonville clinics already have been filed with the city and the St. Johns River Water Management District for Walmart Supercenters at 6830 Normandy Blvd. in West Jacksonville, 7075 Collins Road in Southwest Jacksonville and 1580 Branan Field Road in Middleburg.
The Normandy addition is 7,650 square feet and the Collins and Middleburg expansions are 6,500 square feet.
Walmart did not say where in Jacksonville the seven clinics would be located. The health centers are constructed next to existing Walmart Supercenters.
There are 18 Walmart Supercenters in the Jacksonville area, including Nassau, Clay and St. Johns counties.
Wal-Mart Stores East of Bentonville, Arkansas, is the developer. Bohler Engineering LLC is the engineer.
The blog post said seven more centers are planned in Georgia along with two in Chicago. Walmart opened its first center one year ago in Dallas, Georgia.
The post said Walmart would partner with BLOX, a health care building firm, to construct the centers.
Alabama-based BLOX designs, constructs and installs smaller modules, such as operating rooms, exam rooms and bathrooms as well as larger projects, including ambulatory and acute care facilities and free-standing emergency rooms.
Haskell, the Jacksonville-based global architecture, engineering, construction and consulting firm, announced in August 2019 it was investing in the company.
Walmart said the health centers will provide primary care, urgent care, labs, imaging, counseling, optical and hearing services.
It will provide “quality, affordable and accessible” care to patients with or without health insurance, a July 22 Walmart blog post said.
It also plans to add dental services at its existing locations in July.
Walmart.com shows 13 health centers comprising eight in Georgia, four in Texas and one in Arkansas.
