The city issued a demolition permit Oct. 8 for the former Shell gas station at 5640 San Jose Blvd. to make way for a new Starbucks Coffee Co. shop.

Elfrink Custom Construction Inc. is the contractor to remove the station at a cost of $20,000. The structure is 2,370 square feet.

The city also is reviewing permit applications for Starbucks to build a new 2,533-square-foot shell structure at a cost of $500,000 on the site and build it out at $275,000.

Starbucks has been building stand-alone stores to replace the in-line locations within multitenant buildings. An in-line Starbucks operates across the street. The new Starbucks will have a patio and drive-thru.

First Coast Energy L.L.P. sold the site to San Jose Blvd Realty LLC in December.
