The Bread & Board owners Dwayne Beliakoff and Jonathan Cobbs said March 30 that the COVID-19 crisis hasn’t slowed down progress on their planned restaurant and marketplace at 100 W. Bay St. Downtown.
They completed their design and review phase for the project at VyStar Credit Union's headquarters campus and will be putting out bids soon.
Thomas Duke Architecture, in collaboration with Micamy Design, is the project designer.
The news release announcing the project said the design will feature repurposed timber and hardwood, and granite and marble surfaces.
The owners said they still are shooting for a summer opening, likely July or August barring construction delays.
On March 6, the restaurateurs announced they would build a restaurant and marketplace on the ground floor of VyStar Credit Union's headquarters campus Downtown.
The 7,200-square foot space will include a marketplace called Bread & Board Provisions, with food, drink and local retailers.
The Bread & Board's space will be about 5,000 square feet, and the seven retailers will operate small storefronts in a 2,2000-square-foot space.
Food, beverage and retail partners in the Bread & Board Provisions market include Good Dough, Alewife Craft Beer and Bottle Shop, Bee Friends Farm, Layered: Cakes & Sweets by Anita Adams, Martin Coffee, Saturiwa Trading Company and Bark Urban Dog Boutique.
“If someone were to fly in for business and go Downtown, could they get a flavor if they’re not branching out to all the neighboring areas in the 24 to 48 hours they’re here? It’s not just Bread & Board,” Beliakoff said in a previous interview.
“It was a way to highlight the craft of what some of our friends are doing and highlight Jacksonville at the same time.”
