H. Stephen Jones & Associates is moving into a new headquarters this summer – one that it calls the “office of the future.”

The technology consulting firm employs 11 people and will add seven to 10. The company plans to move into the space by late summer.

HSJ works with military bases, courthouses, hospitals, jails, airports, universities and corporate offices to keep their facilities secure. In Florida, the company worked with the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center, Nemours Children’s Hospital and the Orlando International Airport.

In the lobby, visitors and employees will be scanned by an infrared thermometer to check for a fever and be greeted by personalized digital signage triggered by facial recognition. The office will feature smart lighting, cellphone-based building access and weapons detection technology.

Visitors can view demonstrations of gunshot and aggression detection enabled cameras, remote lockdown tools, interactive multimedia displays and conference rooms with the latest audiovisual systems.

“With the heightened level of safety and security necessary in response to the COVID-19 crisis, HSJ’s new office will be a model for other businesses to follow to ensure their people are protected from both visible and invisible (infectious) threats,” a news release said. “HSJ is dedicated to ensuring the investments clients make in these systems deliver on their promised benefits.”

The city is reviewing a building-permit application for a $425,000 renovation of the two-story building at 5836 Richard St. for H. Stephen Jones & Associates Inc. The permit says 9,000 square feet will be remodeled for the company.

A company spokesman said the build-out would cost about $550,000.

Urban Partners Construction is listed as the contractor and Chris Belyea Architecture is the architect.

HSJ Richard Street LLC, at 11945 San Jose Blvd., is the property owner.

It paid $1.125 million for the Richard Street property Dec. 26. The more than 11,000-square-foot building on 0.84 acres was built in 1987. It was the former home of a Brooks Rehabilitation billing center.

The new office is more than twice the size of the 3,500 square feet of space it leases at 11945 San Jose Blvd.

The additional space in the building will allow the company to expand its lab and add an innovation incubator. HSJ is seeking partnerships with area universities to launch the incubator focused on creating new security technologies for the health care industry.
