The FBI announced April 15 that Mark Hoffman was appointed in March as the assistant special agent in charge of the FBI Jacksonville criminal branch.
He will oversee the violent crimes against children, cyber, civil rights, violent crime and financial crime programs, among others, for the 40-county territory.
Hoffman replaces Carlton Peeples, who was promoted to the FBI Inspection Division.
Hoffman previously served as a supervisory special agent for the FBI Phoenix Division where he oversaw investigations into violent crimes such as bank robbery, Indian Country crime, airport matters, violent crimes against children and human intelligence matters for the state of Arizona.
Hoffman joined the FBI in 1998 and has worked with the FBI in Detroit and Dallas and at FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C., within the counterterrorism and national security programs.
In Detroit, Hoffman was a member of the SWAT Team, served on U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft’s protection detail and performed a tour of duty at the FBI Terrorist Screening Center, where he assisted in developing the Terrorist Screening Database.
He also was the acting unit chief for the FBI’s 9/11 Unit and worked with the Department of Defense to prosecute five people who conspired in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.
Before joining the FBI, he was an Air Force officer.
