The city issued a permit Wednesday for Arco Design/Build to build-out a distribution center for W.W. Grainger Inc. in Northwest Jacksonville at a cost of $1.55 million.

Grainger, a business-to-business distributor of industrial maintenance, repair and operating products, will lease a 297,067-square-foot building at Crossroads Distribution Center.

Miles River Partners LLC and TriGate Capital developed the center at 6590 Pritchard Road, at southeast Interstate 295 and Pritchard Road.

Plans show Grainger will build-out 4,162 square feet for office space.

“Grainger is adding this bulk warehouse to serve our customers in the region even more effectively,” said Joe Micucci, Grainger senior director of external affairs.

He said the company expects the building will be operational by early 2020.

Micucci said previously the center will serve as a bulk warehouse to support the company’s almost 250,000-square-foot Jacksonville distribution center at 8001 Forshee Drive in Westside Industrial Park.

That center employs 160 people, he said. Micucci said Grainger is working though the team member needs, such as the number of employees, for the new center.

Micucci said Grainger has operated in Florida since 1942 and the Forshee Drive distribution center opened in 2002.

Miles River Partners, through CrossJax Distribution LLC, bought 100 acres in June 2018 at I-295 and Pritchard Road.

It expects to develop up to three buildings totaling 550,000 square feet on the 40 acres of usable space.

Grainger will lease the first building. Miles River plans to build a second building of 150,000 square feet.
