Tumi wants to open at St. Johns Town Center.
The city is reviewing a permit application for a $75,000 build-out for Tumi in almost 1,500 square feet at 4812 River City Drive, No. 107.
Tumi is based in Edison, New Jersey. The luggage, backpack, travel bag and accessories store was founded in 1975 by entrepreneur Charlie Clifford, a former Peace Corps volunteer and importer of leather bags from South America.
Samsonite International S.A. bought Tumi Holdings Inc. in August 2016. Tumi became an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Samsonite.
St. Johns County issued permits for two retail buildings at the Shoppes of St. Johns Parkway at northwest Country Road 210 and St. Johns Parkway.
The one-story flex retail buildings are planned on either side of the Earth Fare grocery store that will anchor the center. Records show a construction cost of $788,570 for the 12,350-square-foot Building A at 160 Shops Blvd. and $575,000 for the 9,138-square-foot Building C at 90 Shops Blvd.
Sleiman Enterprises is the owner and developer.
