Duval County is one of the first counties to begin issuing the redesigned Florida driver license and ID card – the first design change since 2003.
All Duval County Tax Collector branch offices, with the exception of Gateway, are now issuing the new cards. The Gateway Branch will have the new card system installed by the end of October.
The new IDs will be available by Jan. 1 at all service centers in Florida and online at gorenew.com.
“The new driver license and ID card has almost double the security features than the current credential and is the most secure over-the-counter credential on the market today,” said Duval County Tax Collector Michael Corrigan.
The new credential design incorporates redundant data, ultraviolet ink and optically variable features.
The cards feature designations for lifetime sportsman's, boater, freshwater, saltwater and hunting licenses, as well as icons for veterans, organ donors, deaf/hard of hearing and developmentally disabled residents.
In addition, the new credential conforms to federal REAL ID security standards and can be used as official identification for domestic air travel and access to federal facilities.
Florida residents are required to replace their current driver license or ID card only if it has expired or an address or name change is needed.
There is no fee increase for the new credential.
