Jenkins Hyundai is the next to join Atlantic Boulevard’s dealership row.

Tom Formanek, president and CEO of Ocala-based Jenkins Automotive Group, said the group hopes to start construction by August or September. It will take about nine months to build.

Site plans show Jenkins Hyundai of Northeast Jacksonville will be developed along Atlantic Boulevard between Jaguar Land Rover Jacksonville and Coggin Honda Jacksonville.

Plans show the Jenkins Hyundai dealership will comprise about 32,400 square feet among two buildings — one for a showroom/office and one for service/parts — on 9.43 acres.

Formanek estimates the investment will be about $9 million for land and construction.

DRJ Land Co. paid $4.15 million for the property in November. DRJ’s principals are Donald Jenkins and Formanek.

Formanek said the site was recommended by the manufacturer and also is compliant with Florida Automotive Franchise laws.

Jenkins Automotive Group has nine dealerships in Florida and one in Georgia.

“If we see a potentially good opportunity, we would pursue it,” Formanek said when asked if the group is interested in more Northeast Florida locations.

He said no rendering was available.

Plans show London Engineering and Associates Inc. of Ocala as the agent and civil engineer.

Beeline Development Inc. is the contractor. It built five of the Jenkins dealerships.

The city signed a mobility fee calculation certificate April 20 that shows a $213,645 fee.

That fee represents the determined demand on transportation infrastructure.

Jenkins Automotive Group operates Hyundai dealerships in Ocala and Leesburg in Florida and in Lithia Springs in Georgia.

It also owns Acura, Kia and Mazda dealerships in Ocala; Honda, Nissan and Volkswagen dealerships in Leesburg; and a Kia dealership in Gainesville.

The project won’t be far from the new Audi Jacksonville that Jacksonville-based Hanania Automotive Group is developing on 6 acres at 11401 Atlantic Blvd.

Atlantic Boulevard sports about 17 dealerships from Regency Square Mall at Monument Road east to Kernan Boulevard.

Property remains available for more.
