Ash Properties started construction on The Shoppes of St. Johns at 10850 U.S. 1 in Ponte Vedra Beach, just north of Florida 210 in St. Johns County. The retail and office center will be anchored by Ace Hardware. The property offers 26,000 square feet of retail space and there also will be about 16,000 square feet of office space for lease. The retail space is expected to be completed in late fall of 2017 and the office space is expected to be completed in early 2018.

Work to close two Skyway stations

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority will close the Convention Center Skyway Station and the Jefferson Station on July 5 because of construction.

The Convention Center station will remain closed until the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center is completed in late 2019. The Jefferson Station will reopen upon completion of the Lofts at LaVilla.

Chase supports Northwest Jacksonville

JPMorgan Chase provided $400,000 in grants to two local organizations to accelerate growth and increase capital for small businesses in Northwest Jacksonville. JAX Chamber Foundation received $325,000 to expand its entrepreneurship education and façade improvement programs for local small businesses, and Accion received $75,000 to expand its operations into the New Town community to provide small businesses with access to capital through its microloan and SBA Community Advantage programs.

JTA launches pilot taxi program

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority partnered with Coastal Cab of Jacksonville to launch a pilot taxi program that started May 8. The service operates in the former Mandarin Community Shuttle Zone bordered by Interstate 295, San Jose Boulevard, Sunbeam Road and Hood Road. JTA’s six-month pilot program allows riders to use Coastal Cab to travel within a specific geographic zone. From there, riders can connect with the JTA fixed route bus system. On the return trip, they can use Coastal Cab to travel back home or to work (within the zone).

Customers can schedule a trip by calling Coastal Cab directly at (904) 686-8111, by visiting coastalcab-jax.com, by downloading the Coastal Cab app from the Google Play or iTunes store or by calling reservations at (904) 598-8724. The cost per trip is $2 per passenger and customers will pay Coastal Cab directly with cash or a credit card.

Baptist Health Foundation elects 3 board members

The Baptist Health Foundation announced the election of three members to its board of trustees.

Dr. Deborah Abram is a pediatric hospitalist with Nemours Children’s Specialty Care in Jacksonville and the immediate past chief of staff at Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

Connie Hodges retired in 2014 after 30 years with the United Way of Northeast Florida, serving 16 years as president.

Grace Martin Sarber is past president of The Women’s Board of Wolfson Children’s Hospital and a former chair of the Art & Antiques Show.

Scott reappoints TerKonda to state Board of Medicine

Gov Rick Scott reappointed Dr. Sarvam TerKonda, 55, of Jacksonville, to the state Board of Medicine. TerKonda is a plastic surgeon at Mayo Clinic Florida. His term began Friday and ends Oct. 31, 2020. The reappointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Drum, Tousey join Wolfson Children’s Hospital board

Wolfson Children’s Hospital announced it elected two members to its board of directors.

Paula Drum has served as vice president of marketing and e-commerce at Interline Brands since August 2014. Clay B. Tousey III, a shareholder with Fisher, Tousey, Leas & Ball, focuses on estate planning and general corporate representation

Celzo joins FirstAtlantic Bank

Larry Celzo joined FirstAtlantic Bank as vice president and senior commercial banker.

His responsibilities include developing new customer relationships in the bank’s targeted markets of businesses and professionals. He most recently was with IberiaBank.

Hawkins, McGehee, Garrison, gain Scott appointments

Gov. Rick Scott appointed David “Hunt” Hawkins and reappointed Thomas “Mac” McGehee Jr. to the Florida State College at Jacksonville District Board of Trustees.

Both are from Jacksonville and their terms began Monday and end May 31, 2019. Hawkins, 58, is the CEO of Stein Mart Inc. McGehee, 57, is the executive vice president at Mac Papers Inc. The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Also, Scott appointed Samuel Garrison to the St. Johns River State College District Board of Trustees. Garrison, 40, of Fleming Island, is an attorney at Kopelousos, Bradley and Garrison P.A., and previously served as an assistant state attorney of the 4th Judicial Circuit of Florida. His appointment began Monday and ends May 31, 2018.
