Morton’s The Steakhouse submitted plans to the city Thursday to renovate a closed restaurant in the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront.

Goldcon Inc. of North Miami Beach is the contractor to renovate almost 6,900 square feet of space in the Downtown hotel at 225 E. Coastline Drive.

Morton’s will convert the former Plaza III The Steakhouse, which closed in 2009.

The pending permit application lists a construction cost of $80,000. Work includes interior finishes, millwork, new light fixtures and modifications to the bar area.

Permit applications will be submitted separately for the outdoor canopy and structure over the existing patio.

Plans show 298 seats, comprising 224 inside the dining and bar area and 74 seats on the patio.

The interior includes two private dining rooms — one shown with 30 seats and another with a single six-seat table.

The project team includes tenant Morton’s of Chicago/Jacksonville LLC, architect RSP Architects of Minneapolis, contractor Goldcon and engineer Emanuelson-Podas Inc. of Edina, Minn.

Hyatt Regency Jacksonville is the landlord.

Morton’s is based in Houston and previously operated on the Southbank. It closed in early 2012 as part of shutdowns after a change in ownership.

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation recently approved a plan for Morton’s at the hotel’s address.
