For the first time in several years, there will be contested elections in our circuit for the offices of State Attorney and Public Defender.
The selection of the person to serve in these positions for the next six years is extremely important to everyone in Duval, Nassau and Clay counties, but particularly important to us as attorneys.
Most of you know and can personally evaluate the attorneys offering themselves for these two offices.
The election will be Aug. 30. Because of election laws, and the fact all the candidates are Republicans, only people registered as Republicans on that date can vote in this important election.
As such, to cast a ballot Aug. 30, between now and the end of July, anyone can change their party affiliation to Republican.
The process is simple.
Visit the Office of Supervisor of Elections, 105 E. Monroe St., 8 a.m.-5 p.m. any weekday before July 30 and change your party affiliation. It takes only a few minutes.
You also may visit duvalelections.com and click “Update Registration” to make the change yourself.
Consider the importance of this election, register and show up to vote.
