Nelson joins race for state attorney

McGuireWoods attorney Melissa Nelson had long been rumored as a candidate to challenge State Attorney Angela Corey.

On Thursday, Nelson ended the speculation and filed to run against her former boss.

At McGuireWoods, her practice focuses on commercial litigation, defense of Title VII and Title IX claims and white collar criminal defense.

She served as an assistant state attorney for 12 years and was on the 4th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission from 2011-15.

A call to McGuireWoods was referred to Nelson’s campaign manager Brian Hughes, who did not return a call Friday or Monday about Nelson.
