My favorite Olympic event is figure skating. I have so much respect for the skaters, who can execute the most complicated performances with such grace and ease. They make it look

effortless, even though they have spent months training and

perfecting the routine. It also always amazes me, how even after a terrible fall, they get up and keep going.

Peter Blumeyer, Holland & Knight

By far, my favorite is track and field, known officially as ‘athletics.’ Growing up, my passion for running led me to join my high school track team. Doing so, I had the opportunity to travel around the region as a competitor in the men’s 400-meter dash and 4x400 meter and 4x800 meter relays. That said, there is nothing more exciting than watching some of the greatest athletes in the world compete in ‘my’ sport.

If only I could have been half that good.

Celia C. Falzone, Akerman

I’ve always enjoyed gymnastics after watching the 1996 Atlanta games with my parents and sister. I remember when Kerri Strug, a gymnast on the U.S. team, hurt her ankle but still managed to stick her landing on the vault, solidifying a gold medal for the U.S. That was memorable and showed self-sacrifice for a team goal. I also enjoy rhythmic gymnastics and watching the gymnasts use the different equipment. I particularly like the ball and ribbon; it is mesmerizing.
