We need you as an advising attorney for Ask-A-Lawyer 2016.
Ask-A-Lawyer events are free of charge and are held quarterly at various community locations.
Members of the public are able to speak to a licensed Florida attorney in 15-minute, one-to-one counsel and advice interviews. Attorneys advise in their own areas of expertise.
Now in its sixth year, Ask-A-Lawyer is a project of The Jacksonville Bar Association, Florida Coastal School of Law and Jacksonville Area Legal Aid.
Attorneys are asked to volunteer from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The Saturday events are 9 a.m.-noon. Here are the dates and locations for this year:
• March 19, SOS Academy, 6974 Wilson Blvd.
• June 18, Northwest Jacksonville Community Development Corp., 3416 Moncrief Road
• Sept. 17, Florida State College at Jacksonville Downtown Campus, 401 W. State St.
• Dec. 3, Johnson Family YMCA, 5700 Cleveland Road
Ask-A-Lawyer events are at locations in close proximity to some of the city’s low-income neighborhoods.
Attendees are welcomed to a relaxed, familiar setting and have the opportunity to “pick the brain” of a licensed attorney about their legal matters.
It’s a chance to receive knowledge, encouragement and guidance relevant to an issue that may be causing significant stress in their households.
With Ask-A-Lawyer events, attorneys take legal guidance to areas where people may need it most and to areas that are underserved.
Legal information is available online, but it becomes more valuable when the person in need can combine online resources with a face-to-face conversation with an attorney.
If you’re able to volunteer for one or all Ask-A-Lawyer events, contact Para at [email protected]. You will receive a reminder email with more details prior to the event.
Many other pro bono opportunities are available in the 4th Circuit and attorneys are encouraged to inquire about those, too.
