I have participated in the Gate River Run a number of times. It is extremely well organized and a great experience. Running through the streets of Jacksonville being cheered on by thousands of fans is incredible. It is an event that I will continue to participate in for many years to come.
The only thing better than going out for a run in Jacksonville is doing it in March with 15,000 of your closest friends. It doesn’t matter if you run, walk or both — it is always a great time. I have slayed the Green Monster three times (always with help from family and friends) and look forward to many more.
I’ve run the Gate River Run every year since moving to Jacksonville. This will be my 17th (much slower than my first in 1999). The race is a great showcase of our city and brings in elite runners from around the world. Many thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers, runners and supporters
that make this race such a great event.
I love the Gate River Run because it’s a challenging course with tremendous support for the local community. The 15K distance is perfect, especially for those not quite ready for a half marathon. My favorite memory from last year was a family handing out Otter Pops. It was a warm morning and they were a great pick-me-up.
The Gate River Run is one of the highlights for Jacksonville in the spring. I ran the race twice and found it challenging yet fun, with everything from bands on the course to runners dressed in costumes. There is such a sense of community at this event and the exposure it brings to Downtown Jacksonville is immeasurable.
