Southeastern Grocers announced Tuesday that Anthony Hucker has joined as the company’s new chief operating officer.
Hucker previously was president and COO of Schnucks, a Midwest food retailer. He also served as president of Giant Food and was on the executive board of Ahold USA.
Ian McLeod, president and CEO of Southeastern Grocers, said in a statement he welcomed Hucker’s experience in the grocery industry, both within the United States and overseas.
“I am confident that Anthony will make a significant contribution to the performance of Southeastern Grocers,” McLeod said.
McLeod, a Scotland native, became CEO of Southeastern Grocers a year ago Wednesday. He is the former managing director of the Coles grocery chain in Australia.
Before joining Giant, Hucker spent seven years at Walmart in a variety of leadership positions, both in the United States and internationally.
He began as CIO of the Americas, formed a Global Format Development Division and then became head of strategy and business development for Walmart USA.
Southeastern Grocers said Hucker began his career in the European retail industry as a food industry analyst reporting on pan-European stocks to the City of London.
Hucker then worked for 10 years with Aldi, where he served in a variety of leadership assignments in Germany, Austria and the United States. He was part of the original startup team that set up Aldi UK.
Southeastern Grocers formerly was known as Bi-Lo Holdings, which was formed in 2012 with the merger of Winn-Dixie and Bi-Lo. It located the combined headquarters in Jacksonville and then changed its name to Southeastern Grocers LLC in May. Its banners are the Winn-Dixie, Bi-Lo and Harveys supermarket chains.
