Daily’s Convenience Stores, founded and headquartered in Jacksonville, opened its 26th store and 13th DASH restaurant in San Marco on Jan. 14, making it the company’s 166th store in Florida.

Daily’s presented a $2,500 check to Principal Timothy Feagins of Julia Landon College Preparatory School as part of the company’s community partnerships with neighborhood schools and organizations.

In addition, all proceeds from the DASH restaurant in the San Marco store during the week of Jan. 25-29 will be donated to the school.

In 2015, Daily’s raised more than $500,000 to support local organizations including The Boselli Foundation, Birdies for the Brave, St. Vincent’s Mobile Health Outreach Ministry, St. Mark’s Episcopal Day School Scholarship and Angels for Allison.

The company regularly contributes to local schools and sports in the area, with charitable contributions resulting in millions of dollars of community support since the company was founded in 1997.

HabiJax and Wells Fargo partner on New Town project

New Town is brighter after Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville, in partnership with Wells Fargo volunteers, observed Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a day of service.

Volunteers completed a variety of jobs to boost homes’ curb appeal, including landscaping enhancement, right-of-way cleanup, exterior repairs and painting projects.

The day began with a celebration at the Edward Waters College Adams Jenkins Community Sports and Music Complex. The event featured music, a drumline and a short program with remarks from Wells Fargo North Florida Regional President Kelly Smith and city Director of Community Affairs Charles Moreland.

The largest affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International in the U.S., HabiJax has provided housing services to more than 2,000 families since 1988.

HabiJax has built more than 250 homes to date in New Town and invested $16 million to complete more than 400 homeownership and rehabilitation projects in the area.

Weaver fulfills $500,000 pledge to food bank

Jacksonville philanthropist Delores Barr Weaver donated another $250,000 to Feeding Northeast Florida — fulfilling her $500,000 pledge over two years to support the fight against hunger in 17 area counties.

“The board and staff at Feeding Northeast Florida have done an incredible job in improving operating efficiencies to distribute food to more than 180 food pantries and other nonprofit agencies in Northeast Florida during its first year in operation,” Weaver said.

In 2015, the agency distributed nearly 20 million pounds of food through partners in 17 counties, while reducing the cost of distributing a pound of food by more than 57 percent, from 23 cents per pound to 10 cents per pound.

It also continued the implementation of a “hub-and-spoke” distribution model to serve the area’s food pantries more effectively — bringing on satellite distribution centers in Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties — each certified to accept food shipments directly from grocer sponsors.

Feeding Northeast Florida is an affiliate of Feeding America, a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks that lead the fight against hunger in the United States.

The most recent localized survey from the 2014 Hunger in America report shows 38,000 people are served each week by programs supported by the regional food bank.
