Pier 1 Imports will close its Regency area store and is selling its home décor, gift and other items, as well as its furniture and fixtures.

Customers on the company’s email list were notified Thursday about the sale at 9395 Atlantic Blvd. The notice said the sale was pursuant to a Duval County permit granted Monday for an out-of-business/fire sale.

The store’s contents are on sale now for 20-40 percent off the original ticketed price. It sells furniture, home accents and décor, rugs, pillows, window treatments, dinner and glassware, table linens, candles, fragrances and more.

Pier 1, headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, has five more stores in the area: OakLeaf Town Center, St. Johns Town Center, Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach and St. Augustine.

The company started in San Mateo, Calif., in 1962 selling to young baby boomers wanting beanbag chairs, love beads and incense, the company says. It established its headquarters in Fort Worth in 1966, went public in stock offering in 1970 and now has more than 1,000 locations.

Property records show the 8,550-square-foot Regency store was built in 1987.

The closing is another retail departure in the Regency area. Hobby Lobby closed last year as it opened a new store in River City Marketplace. Bed Bath & Beyond and World Market closed their Regency stores a year ago after the holidays.
