Florida Coastal School of Law President Dennis Stone recently represented the school at a ceremony at the White House.

Stone took part in the fifth annual President’ Interfaith & Community Service Campus Challenge, an event that took place over two days at the White House and Howard University. The purpose of Stone’s visit was to learn more about interfaith and community service initiatives across the U.S. and around the world.

Coastal Law was selected for the recognition because of its dedication to assisting the underserved through its legal clinic and pro-bono hours throughout Jacksonville.

It’s Coastal Law’s first time being selected to participate.

Akerman makes $1M pledge to national organization

Akerman is making a $1 million pledge to the National Court Appointed Special Advocates Association, an organization that assists children of abuse or neglect in courtrooms and communities.

Statistics show more than 20,000 abused and neglected children in Florida’s foster care system and more than 2,500 in the 4th Circuit — almost a third of which don’t have an advocate, according to a news release.

It marks the largest donation the organization has ever received from a law firm and one of the top five contribution its received in its 38-year history.

Akerman’s commitments spans multiple priorities on the local and national level, including advocacy, colunteer engagement, pro bono, fundraising and through Akerman’s Give Back campaign.
