The Jacksonville Jaguars will take on the Tennessee Titans tonight before millions of TV viewers across the country.

The National Football League and Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office will be taking extra precautions to ensure the tens of thousands in attendance stay safe.

Sheriff Mike Williams said Wednesday that additional officers and equipment would be part of the security detail for the game.

The high-profile event comes less than a week after a series of coordinated terrorist attacks killed 129 people in Paris. Other attacks throughout Europe also have created higher alert levels.

Williams wouldn’t provide specifics, but said the extra security precautions would be in place for other events like the Jacksonville Light Boat Parade and TaxSlayer Bowl. Events like those draw people in masses, creating ideal targets for attacks.

The extra measures shouldn’t impact the experience for those attending the events, the sheriff said.

Mayor Lenny Curry and Williams met at length Wednesday, talking about public safety for the game and other events.

Curry said he’d be at tonight’s game with his wife and encouraged others to do the same.

The Jaguars in a statement asked fans to arrive early to EverBank Field and prepare for delays before entering the stadium. Those who see anything suspicious also are advised to notify security.

Only approved, clear bags will be permitted into the stadium.
