Standard Pacific and Ryland Group merge

Standard Pacific Corp. and The Ryland Group Inc. have closed a merger of equal transaction and launched a new combined consumer brand, CalAtlantic Homes.

The combined company as of June 30 had an equity market capitalization of approximately $5.4 billion and owned or controlled approximately 76,000 homesites. In the year ending June 30, it delivered more than 12,786 homes.

CalAtlantic Group Inc. Executive Chairman Scott Stowell said the merger would allow the company to gain both geographic and product diversification, expanding its reach and enhancing growth prospects in the entry level, move-up and luxury market segments.

The company anticipates that production, purchasing and other synergies from the transaction could result in annual cost savings of between $50 million and $70 million.

Davidson helps design Habitat neighborhood

Davidson Realty Inc. recently partnered with Habitat for Humanity of St. Augustine-St. Johns County to plan and design a newly proposed Habitat neighborhood in West St. Augustine.

Canopy Oaks will include eight townhomes and 11 single-family homes. It will feature “home clusters” designed around shared driveways, a new approach for Habitat communities which helps to use land efficiently and reduce costs.

Davidson provided the planning and site design for the blockwide site on Broach Street. The site is targeted as part of a larger revitalization effort in the West Augustine Overlay District and Economic Development area.

The district is looking to improve living conditions and encourage property development that results in better economic progress, diverse uses, enhanced resident opportunities and a lively and safe neighborhood.

The neighborhood’s infrastructure is being built and permitting should begin later this year.

Habitat aims to build six homes per year, executive director Alia Reimer said. The organization is actively looking for qualified families to fill these homes, he said.
