Former Action News anchor Mark Spain said today he will be leaving Jacksonville in about two weeks to take a main anchor job out of state.
Spain said he could not say where he is moving because of pre-employment conditions. He said the station hasn’t made an announcement yet, either.
“It’s bittersweet. That’s the best way to describe it,” he said.
Spain is one of four anchors whose contracts weren’t renewed last year at Action News, which is rebranding its news programming and hired two new anchors that started on the air in September.
Spain left the station at the end of August. He joined Action News, which is WFOX TV-30 and WJAX TV-47, as an anchor in August 2007. Before that, he was an anchor at First Coast News since May 2000.
“It’s tough leaving a place that you’ve called home for 15 years. We have just loved it so much. It is a great place to live and work,” he said.
“But I have to do what’s best for my family and that means pulling up stakes and plying my trade.”
Spain came to the market from Cleveland. He will be moving with his wife and 3-year-old son.
