Bourré Construction Group has bought and will renovate Drew Mansion in historic Springfield.
The building will be restored to its original design and take an estimated two years to complete.
Bourré Construction is asking for donations to help toward the estimated $800,000 renovation.
Company owner Michael Bourré said he hoped the project would serve as a model and inspire others to restore the community’s historical sites.
Drew Mansion was built in 1909 for Dr. Horace Drew, a physician and grandson of Jacksonville pioneer Columbus Drew.
According to the book, “Jacksonville’s Architectural Heritage Society,” the building shows one of the most inventive uses of concrete blocks as a building material in Jacksonville. The home is the last of what was an entire block of mansions surrounding Klutho Park.
The Jacksonville Historic Society in 2012 labeled Drew Mansion one of the most endangered historic structures.
